New MOGO Hotline Offers Lifeline to Kenyans Hit by Vehicle and Boda Boda Theft

For hundreds of Kenyans who have lost vehicles and motorcycles to thieves, help is now just a phone call away.

Asset financier Mogo has launched a 24/7 emergency hotline 0719 089 999, to help report and recover stolen assets across the country.

The hotline is part of a growing digital safety initiative that includes SAKA, a multivehicle verification database launched last month.

Mogo says the initiative has already made an impact with over 150 motor vehicle and boda boda theft cases reported through the hotline and more than 50 percent of those vehicles recovered.

“This service extends the SAKA platform by offering immediate assistance, recovery coordination, and public education on how to use the system effectively,” said Branton Mutea, MOGO’s Deputy Country Manager.

Anyone, including non-MOGO clients, can use the number to report thefts or suspicious activity.
MOGO clients benefit from GPS tracking and a streamlined recovery process that involves coordination with the police.

The country has in recent times witnessed an upsurge in theft of motor vehicles, tuk tuks as well as motorcycles.
Over 10,000 motorcycles were stolen in 2024 alone, according to the 2025 Kenya National Economic Survey.
According to authorities, only 15% of stolen vehicles are ever recovered.

This, Mogo contends, severely disrupts the livelihoods of boda boda riders as well as taxi operators.
Meanwhile, criminal syndicates are targeting high-value vehicles, with more than 27 percent of those stolen last year worth over Sh3 million.

Law enforcement has flagged Nairobi, Kiambu, Machakos, and Kisumu among the top theft hotspots.
“We want to create a trusted ecosystem where tech, partnerships, and community action work together to fight motor theft,” added Mutea.
