Safaricom-sponsored golfer Samuel Chege strengthened his grip on the PGK Equator Tour after winning the sixth leg at Nakuru Golf Club with a four-round score of 280, 12 under par.

Chege beat a competitive field of 49 professionals to claim his second title of the second edition of the tour, following his victory at the second leg held at his home club, Thika Sports Club.

The latest win also extended his lead in the Order of Merit. Chege now has 3,852 points as the tour heads into its seventh leg.

The Thika Sports Club player produced a consistent performance in Nakuru to finish six shots ahead of seasoned professional Dismas Indiza, who carded 286, six under par.

Mutahi Kibugu finished third on 287, five under par, giving Safaricom-sponsored golfers two places among the top three finishers.

Chege said the victory was particularly meaningful after narrowly missing out on the title during his previous appearance at Nakuru Golf Club.

“It feels great to win here in Nakuru. The last time we played here, I finished second and was very close to winning. Coming back this year and finishing first makes this victory even more special,” said Chege.

He said he entered the tournament determined to secure the title after his previous experience at the course.

“I came here determined to win, and I am really happy to see the hard work I have put into my game paying off,” he added.

Isaiah Otuke finished fourth with 288, four under par, while Mohit Mediratta and Daniel Nduva tied for fifth on 289, three under par.

Edwin Mudanyi, John Lerjirma and David Wakhu shared seventh place after carding 291, one under par. Eric Ooko completed the top 10 with 293, one over par.

Chege’s victory adds to the growing presence of Safaricom-sponsored players on the tour as they compete for valuable Order of Merit points and opportunities to advance their professional careers.

The PGK Equator Tour now moves to Sigona Golf Club for the seventh leg of the season. Players will continue competing for points that could strengthen their chances of qualification for the Magical Kenya Open and the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
