KCB Bank has launched a Shariah-compliant payment card and agency banking service under its Sahl Banking proposition, expanding access to Islamic banking products in Kenya.
Developed in partnership with Mastercard, the Sahl Card enables customers to make everyday payments while adhering to Islamic finance principles. The bank also introduced the Sahl Agency banking network, allowing customers to deposit and withdraw cash, make payments and access other banking services through authorised agents.
The launch comes as financial institutions continue expanding products tailored to customers seeking banking solutions that align with their religious and financial preferences.
KCB Group Director for Strategy and Innovation Mark Mwongela said the new offering reflects the bank’s commitment to serving diverse customer needs.
“We remain committed to developing financial solutions that reflect the diverse needs and aspirations of our customers. The Sahl Card represents an important step in expanding access to Shariah-compliant banking solutions,” said Mwongela.
The payment card also provides lifestyle and travel benefits through Mastercard’s global network. Eligible customers will access offers on accommodation, dining, shopping and leisure experiences, alongside spend management tools, transaction alerts and concierge services.
Mastercard Senior Vice President and Country Manager for East Africa and the Indian Ocean Islands Shehryar Ali said the partnership aims to make digital payments more accessible to customers seeking Islamic banking services.
“Our collaboration with KCB gives consumers a payment solution built around their values and lifestyle,” said Ali.
The launch strengthens KCB’s Islamic banking portfolio as demand for Shariah-compliant financial products continues to grow among individuals and businesses seeking alternative banking solutions.
