NAIROBI, JAN 8 – Sports CS Ababu Namwamba has announced that the upcoming Olympic Games to be held in Paris, France are the Ministry’s and Government’s top priority when it comes to sports this year.

A meeting was convinced on Monday involving the sport CS and the NOC-K members to extrapolate the way forward for the Olympics game.

“Today, January 8, 2024, is exactly 200 days to the Paris Olympics and we are delighted as a Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports to declare that this year, the Olympics are the most significant and the top priority for the ministry and the government,” he stated.

Namwamba was delighted about the progress and the good work NOC-K has been doing in matters preparation for the game.

“We are happy that NOC-K is on the right track in matters preparing for the Games. Starting today, we shall be taking track and ticking every box on our priority list up until the opening ceremony of the event,” he pinpointed.

He also acknowledge their unwavering support for all the athletics and participants, rooting for them that they should conquer the world athletics.

He added that President William Ruto, who is Team Kenya’s number one fan, will be cheering the athletes on as they seek to make an impact in Paris.

Meanwhile, NOC-K president Paul Tergat insisted on the importance of the Olympics, noting that it only happens once in four years and this will be another rare opportunity for the athletes to showcase their talents. “Our job is to nurture those (the athlete’s) dreams by presenting them into the Olympic Games,” Tergat said.

Also, in attendance was Sports PS Peter Tum who emphasized the importance of embracing teamwork to ensure smooth sailing to the Olympic Games. Tum noted that their main focus is on the already qualified teams and they will work day and night to ensure they offer support in their preparation for the event.

Tum: “For us as the ministry, as we are all aware, we must ensure that we work together with NOC-K to ensure that the road to the Olympics is well prepared.”
