Safaricom has won the award for Best Use of Digital Technology at the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS) Africa Excellence in Procurement and Supply Awards 2025.
The accolade recognizes the company’s Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered Supply Market Analysis initiative, which provides real-time insights into supplier landscapes, cost structures, competition, market trends, and commodity risks.
According to the telco, the system has reduced market analysis timelines from nearly a month to just 10 minutes, while improving cost visibility and speeding up tender processes.
“This award brings us closer to our vision of becoming Africa’s leading purpose-led technology company by 2030. By using AI to improve how we work, we are making our operations faster, smarter and more innovative,” said its CEO peter Ndegwa.
Safaricom was shortlisted alongside Rohloff Group, recognized for its Energy Management initiative, and World Vision East African Region, commended for its Contract Life Cycle Management (CLM) project.
The CIPS Africa Excellence in Procurement and Supply Awards spotlight organizations that are reshaping procurement practices and setting industry benchmarks. Safaricom’s entry stood out for integrating digital tools into core procurement operations, reflecting a growing shift towards technology-driven decision-making in Africa’s corporate sector.
