NAIROBI, DECEMBER – Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has announced a reduction of fuel prices in it’s latest review.
As per the review, super Petrol has been reduced by Ksh5, while diesel and kerosene have been reduced by Ksh2 and KSH4 in that order.
With this review, In Nairobi super petrol, diesel and kerosene will now retail at Ksh212.36, Ksh201.47, and Ksh199.05 respectfully. This changes will be effective from midnight for the next 30 days.
“The prices are inclusive of 16% percent value added tax in line with the provision of the finance act 2023, the tax laws act 2020, and the revised rates for exercise duties adjusted for inflation as per the legal notice no194 of 2022,” Epra stated.

In Eldoret, petrol is now to retail at 212.12, diesel at 201.65, and kerosene at sh 199.23. In Mombasa, petrol will retail at 209.3, diesel at sh198.41 and kerosene will sell at 195.92 Kenyan shillings. In Nakuru, petrol, diesel and kerosene will retail at Ksh211.35, sh 200.88 and Ksh194.46 respectfully.
As per Epra, reduction cost in fuel cost is due to a decrease in landing price by 16.11 percent from US$827.75 per cubic metre in Oct 2023 to US$694.44 per cubic metre in November 2023.
For Diesel landing cost, the reduction is by 5.43 percent from US$ per cubic metre to US$826.01 per metric while kerosene decreased by 6.63 percent from US$759.93 per cubic metre.
Kenyans have taken to their social media platforms to air their opinions on this owing to the fact that for some days now they have been calling for the reduction of fuel prices due to skyrocketing cost of living.
While many are not satisfied however with the very low deductions as they were expecting a deduction of up to 30%, others are grateful that the stride as been made and they hope to see the impact soon
