NAIROBI Kenya Oct 29-The cabinet secretary for education, Ezekiel Machogu has conveyed his condolences to families of five Standard Eight candidates from Arap Moi Primary School in Tarakwa, Uasin Gishu County, who drowned on Saturday, 28th October, 2023.
According to a press statement by CS Machogu, the CS said that It is regrettable to lose the candidates just two days before they could sit their Kenya Certificate of Primary Education that starts tomorrow.
“It is regrettable that we lost the candidates just two days before they could sit their Kenya Certificate of Primary Education that starts tomorrow,” the statement read.
“On behalf of the Ministry of Education, I take this opportunity to convey my heartfelt condolences to the families, friends and relatives of the deceased. I also wish a quick recovery to the Grade Six candidate who is currently hospitalised following the incident” The statement further read.
The CS also noted that he is working closely with his counterpart from the Ministry of Interior and National Administration, Prof. Kithure Kindiki, to ensure thorough and conclusive investigations are conducted into the unfortunate incident and promised that appropriate action will be taken on the basis of the findings of the investigations
Machogu further advised Teachers, parents and guardians to avoid exposing learners to risky activities and environments, especially during the national examinations season.
“As the investigations into the tragedy continue, I wish to appeal for calm and patience from the affected school, families and communities. I wish to assure everyone that the Government will take all the necessary measures to ensure the safety of candidates across the country during the 2023 national examinations season’ The CS said in the statement.
