Yavi eyes world record After dominating Steeplechase

Mary Mutile Yavi the sensation 3000M striplechase Bahrain winner has said that she’s now going for world record on steeplechase that is currently being held by Beatrice Chepkoech.

According to reports, Yavi moved out of Kenya at the age of 15 after trying hard to qualify to represent Kenya with no success.

Switching her allegiance to Bahrain, she easily got what she could not get from her motherland and years later she is reaping the best from her choice.

In a recent interview Yavi revealed that she is not yet done with Kenyans and plans to take more from them. This is after entirely dominating in their race severally now.

In 2023 Championship she floored Beatrice Chepkoech to take gold in the race, during the 2024 Olympics she dominated again to take gold on a record time of 8:52:76 leaving Kenya’s Faith Kipyegon to settle for third place after Ugandan champion Peruth Chemutai.

Now she claims she wants to go for the world record on steeplechase that is being held by Beatrice Chepkoech.

“My goal was only Olympics this year. My team supported me and I have always worked together with my coach and Bahrain federation and everybody and fans. They believed in me and the faith pushes me to keep winning,” Yavi told Gulf Daily News, while revealing how she managed to stun Chemutai for gold.

“I was like, let me just wake up because I thought she [Chemutai] was moving too fast and it was all about my mental strength. I was like I can do this and just executed what I had in the body and found myself at the finishing line,” she added.
