After senate committee reviewing in Africa Uncensored documentary on fake fertilizer saga. They have now summoned Agriculture Cabinet secretary Mithika Linturi and his Trade Counterpart Rebecca Miano.

The two are expected to appear before the Senate Agriculture committee on Wednesday, April 10, 2024. They will be expected to answer questions relating to the circulation of fake fertilizer in the Kenyan Markets all over the country.

Senator James Muran’go chairperson of the Senate Agriculture committee said that the committee will visit several counties including Murang’a, Kirinyaga, Embu, Laikipia, Nandi, Homabay, Nakuru and Kakamega to confirm what they have seen in video and to bring the perpetrators to book.

According to his statement, the committee has also summoned officials from National Cereal and Produce Board (NCBP), Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS), National Environment Management Authority (NEMA), Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to explain how and why the fake fertilizer was distributed in government depots.

“Individuals linked to the scam will he prosecuted,” Murango said.

Farmers, have been counting losses from the fake fertilizer bought in NCPB depots. According from the saviour documentary from Africa Uncensored this might have been going for the last two years. In the video there is a clear footage of people shoveling soil and pebbles of stones into branded gunny sucks ready for packaging. 

Murango has advised farmers in the country to keep the vouchers and text messages they had received after buying the alleged fertilizers from NCPB
