Workonline Launches New Internet Hub at iColo Nairobi

Workonline Communications has set up a new internet hub at iColo’s NBO1 data centre in Nairobi, advancing its expansion drive across East Africa.

The POP, which strengthens internet scalability, redundancy, and resilience in the region, comes at a time when Kenya’s internet penetration has reached 48 percent, with over 27.4 million users recorded in early 2025.

“This new POP at iColo Nairobi reflects our continued commitment to East Africa’s digital transformation,” said Benjamin Deveaux, Head of Business Development at Workonline Communications. “By strengthening connectivity in Nairobi, we are helping to unlock economic growth and ensure that local businesses can access world-class cloud and content platforms.”

Kenya, viewed as a digital gateway to neighbouring countries such as Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda, will benefit from improved internet routing and failover capacity enabled by the 2Africa subsea cable and existing Mombasa links.

The POP is integrated into Workonline’s broader infrastructure using a 95th percentile traffic model, allowing seamless optimisation of internet traffic across multiple locations.

“The infrastructure we are building is not just about speed, it’s about stability and scale,” added Deveaux. “We’re laying the groundwork for fintech, AI, and other innovations that will define Africa’s digital economy in the coming years.”

Through the carrier-neutral facility operated by Digital Realty, Workonline now provides ISPs, enterprises, and content providers with direct access to global platforms while boosting regional internet resilience.
