At least 11 Kenyatta University students have died in a tragic road accident involving their school bus and a trailer, Voi District Police Chief, Ibrahim Daffala has confirmed.
Daffala said 10 students died instantly while another died in hospital. 42 students were seriously injured while four were slightly injured.

“The accident happened during the rainy season. The government tried to veer off the road to avoid a head-on collision in this accident,” said Daffala.
Footage shared online shows a school bus hit on the left side. Reports say that the accident happened in Maungu, Voi, Taita Taveta County, along the Mombasa-Nairobi highway.
The school bus was carrying public health students to Mombasa for an educational trip. The passengers were on their way to Nairobi at the time of the accident.

The school bus was carrying 58 passengers. About four students escaped unharmed. They were taken to the Maungu police station to wait for further action. Several occupants of the crashed car who were injured were taken to the Moi County Referral Hospital in Voi.
Daffala advised motorists using the busy Mombasa-Nairobi road to be cautious following heavy rains between Voi and Samburu.
