NAIROBI DEC 12 – President William Ruto has said Kenyans need to make more sacrifices to build the country. The head of state pointed out that the gap between the rich and poor is still huge thus necessitating more sacrifices to create jobs.
Delivering his Jamhuri Day speech as Kenya marked its 60th independent day, Ruto said that his administration has to make smart choices to build the economy in order to match its its economic progress with democratic and political achievement.
“The responsibility of our generation beginning with this administration is to make smart choices and necessary sacrifices just as our forefathers and those who came after them did and the choice is to match our economic progress with our democratic and political achievements,” Ruto said.

According to the head of state, many young people have no jobs which has kept the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) to remain low.
“The gap between the rich and the poor has not reduced. Many, especially the young people don’t have jobs and our revenues as a percentage of GDP has remained low,” he noted.
He continued, “ Our generation must therefore take up the unfinished job of actualizing economic prosperity as a contribution to perfecting Kenya’ national sovereignty. We owe those who made huge sacrifices to bestow as a nation of promise, we owe it to one another, to the youth, children of Kenya, to one another and to everyone of us.”
