Connection with Masengeli’s sentence
The dissapearance of the three Kitengela men raised concerns across the country with member of the public and human rights organization accusing police for the abduction.
The then acting Inspector General of Police Gilbert Masengeli was summoned seven times by High Court Judge Lawrence Mugambi to give account of the whereabout of the three men. However, Masengeli failed to appear in court, prompting the court to find him with contempt of court.
Consequently, Masengeli was sentenced to six months in jail for defying court summons. He was ordered to present himself to Kamiti prison to begin his jail term after he failed to appeal the court’s decision in time.
It remains to be seen whether Masenegli will serve his jail term after the Appellate Court declined to suspend the High Court sentence, pending hearing slated for next week.
