A wall collapsed leaving one person dead and three others injured following the prolonged rains in Ruaka, Kiambu county.

Tenants from the building have been ordered to evacuate the building.

Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi visited the area and ordered the evacuation of all tenants of the building in the impacted area so that they could assess to ascertain the safety of the building.

He directed that no one should be allowed to reside in the building until the probe into the accident is concluded, while allowing tenants to collect their belongings.

“No one will live in these houses until we complete investigations and approve that they are safe for people to live in to guarantee that such tragic incidences are avoided at all costs. We have given you two hours to take all your valuables from your houses then we will seal the houses. Nobody will be permitted to get in later,” Wamatangi said.

The governor further said that a multi-agency team from the county and national government will be summoned to inspect the buildings to assure the residents of safety.

The incident occurred due to the ongoing heavy rains across various regions causing widespread damage and disruption.
