Newcastle United bounced back by picking up a huge Premier League win with a 4-1 victory over Chelsea.
Alexander Isak put the Magpies ahead after returning from injury before Raheem Sterling equalised from a stunning free-kick.
The Blues switched off and Newcastle pounced, as they have done so many times at a home ground that has become a formidable place for opponents.
Newcastle United and Chelsea had gone punch-for-punch across the first 60 minutes of an entertaining affair at St. James’ Park.
Eddie Howe was full of praise for his players for their character to bounce back from the Bournemouth defeat.
Speaking yesterday, he said: “It was a real statement of character within the squad. We really asked the players to step up, and we really deserved to win. Big positives from today” Eddie said.
“The leaders within the group set the tone – Jamaal Lascelles, Kieran Trippier, Matt Ritchie. They make sure we don’t surrender.” Eddie added.
Defensive mistakes by Chelsea led to a quickfire double from Jamaal Lascelles and Joelinton on the hour mark, and Newcastle ran away as 4-1 winners in a huge matchup between teams looking to climb back into the top third of the Premier League table.
