The National Assembly has approved Douglas Kanja Kirocho as the next Inspector-General of Police (IG).
Kanja awaits formal appointment by President William Ruto in order to take full charge of the National Police Servie.
Douglas Kanja Kirocho, is the nominee Inspector-General of the National Police Service and a Commissioner at the National Police Service Commission.
Prior to his nomination in the National Assembly, the 62-year-old officer had served as commandant of the General Service Unit since 2018.
He has also served in various ranks that include; the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the Commandant of the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU), and the Director of Operations at the National Police Service (NPS).
However, Kanja has also served in various parts of the country, including Coast, Nairobi, Eastern, and Rift Valley regions.
Kanja who has served for a cumulative period of thirty-nine years, began his career as a recruit Police Constable in 1985.
He was then promoted to Police Constable, Police Corporal, Acting Inspector of Police, Inspector of Police (IP), Chief Inspector of Police, Acting Superintendent of Police, Superintendent of Police, Senior Superintendent of Police, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police, Commissioner of Police, Assistant Inspector General, Senior Assistant Inspector General.
