The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has canceled two US-funded contracts in Kenya worth over Sh10 billion, citing concerns over wasteful spending.
The affected projects include a Sh10 billion primary literacy program and a Sh439 million consulting contract for aviation advisors.
The cancellations come as DOGE, a department headed by Musk, continues to scrutinize expenditures tied to international development initiatives.
In a statement, DOGE officials defended the move, saying the funds could be better utilized elsewhere.
“We are committed to efficiency and ensuring that resources are used where they have the greatest impact,” DOGE said.

The cancellation of the primary literacy program, which aimed to enhance early childhood education, has sparked concerns among educators and policymakers.
Critics argue that pulling the plug on the project could set back efforts to improve literacy rates in Kenya.
Similarly, the termination of the aviation consulting contract has raised questions about the future of ongoing reforms in Kenya’s aviation sector, where the advisory services were expected to play a crucial role.
