NAIROBI, KENYA, DEC 6-President Ruto has said that Kenya has an intention to replace all fossil-powered motorbikes with electric bikes.

Addressing Indian investors, the head of state has said that Kenya has a big opportunity in E-mobility, and its aim is to replace the 2 million motorbikes in Kenya commonly known as ‘boda bodas’ with E-bikes.

“I was having a conversation with TVS and I was explaining to them that in Kenya we have 2 million motorbikes, commonly known as boda bodas. Our intention is to replace all of them with Ebikes,” the president stated in his speech.

The president has spotlighted that Kenya is committed to revolutionizing its whole transport system since there is an opportunity for manufacturing.

“The whole transport industry from buses to motor vehicles, to three-wheelers and the rest of it. There is an opportunity for manufacture and we are committed ourselves and we have changed policy and we have set timelines on when we must transit to E mobility,” added the president.

The president has also urged the Indian investors to take advantage of the fact that Kenya is one of the countries that contain over 90% renewable energy and manufacture green, a step that he has said will enable Kenya to unstuck itself from the climate change crisis.
