Mpox in Kenya – The Ministry of Health (MOH) has confirmed the fourth case of Monkeypox (Mpox) disease in Kenya, bringing the total number of cases reported in Kenya to four.

The ministry said a truck driver traveling from Mombasa to Rwanda was diagnosed with the Mpox disease.

MOH Principal Secretary Mary Muthoni said the patient fell sick on August 28 2024 while he was passing through Gilgil’s Kikopey area and was admitted to Nakuru PGH Isolation Centre.

“The most recently confirmed case of MPOX is a truck driver who was traveling from Mombasa en route to Rwanda. He felt unwell on 28th August 2024 while passing through Gilgil (Kikopey area) and was unable to continue his journey,” PS Muthoni said.

The fourth case of Mpox in Kenya comes a day after another case was reported in capital City Nairobi, where a 30-year-old woman was diagnosed with the infectious Mpox disease.

The ministry in a letter on 30th August 2024, said it was undertaking measures to contain the spread of Mpox, urging Kenyans to take precautionary measures to avoid contracting the disease.
