
The Netherlands Business Hub Kenya Chairman Jules Delahaije and the Principal Secretary of the State Department of Investment Promotion Abubakar Hassan Abubakar sign a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at promoting opportunities for investments in Kenya.
NAIROBI – MARCH 21, 2025 – The State Department of Investment Promotion (SDIP) and The Netherlands Business Hub Kenya (NLBH) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding, with the objective to further strengthen the commitment between both parties to support the Dutch business community present in Kenya.
This MOU also aims to promote, both locally and internationally, the opportunities for investment in Kenya. The MOU was signed at a business forum on the occasion of the State Visit to Kenya of the King and Queen of the Netherlands.

While speaking, The principal secretary for Investment promotion started the importance of the agreement in identifying government support in business, “This MOU underwrites the recognition of Kenyan Government of the importance of the Netherlands Business community as one of the largest trade and investment partners for Kenya.”
The Chairman of the Netherlands Business Hub, Mr. Jules Delahaije,on the other hand highlighted the sign of unity and support the agreement brought about. “The cooperation between The State Department of Investment Promotion and The Netherlands Business Hub confirms the value of the Netherlands Business Community in Kenya. It is a good example of the public and private sector supporting each other to promote ‘doing business in Kenya’ and to improve the investment climate.”

Ms. Yvonne Oerlemans, General Manager of the Netherlands Business Hub Kenya, said that the signing of the MOU is accepting our commitments and connectivity, “This is a recognition of our passion and our commitment to connect business communities locally here in Kenya, and between Kenya and the Netherlands. By facilitating these connections, we stimulate growth, knowledge transfer and great networking possibilities.”

Dutch Ambassador to Kenya Hon. Henk-Jan Bakker added that it was healthy for partnerships to be brokered in business, “A strong partnership between government and the private sector is essential for business support. The signing of this MOU will strengthen the economic ties between Kenya and the Netherlands and will create more chances for trade and investment.” He stated.
Background Information
The state department of investment promotion, established through Executive Order No. 1 of 2023 as a State Department within the Ministry of Investment Trade and Investment Promotion is mandated to implement investment policy and coordinate promotion of private (foreign and domestic) investments into Kenyan economy and position Kenya as a preferred investment destination in Africa.
The Netherlands business hub Kenya being a Chamber of Commerce, is mandated to catalyze and support trade and investment between Kenya and the Netherlands through commercial and policy advocacy for a conducive investment climate; trade and investment promotion; and providing business intelligence services, events and other activities to add value to the Kenyan and Dutch business community.
