Four Gor Mahia players have been called up to the Harambee Stars squad for their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Zimbabwe and Namibia.
Austin Odhiambo, Sylvester Owino, Alphonce Omija, and Rooney Onyango were selected by coach Engin Firat, aiming to start the qualifiers strong.
All four played pivotal roles during the Emerging Stars’ COSAFA Cup campaign in South Africa last June, with Odhiambo contributing to three goals. Omija looks to build on his debut against Ivory Coast during the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, while Onyango has established himself as the team’s starting right winger.

Owino, who had a strong performance at the COSAFA Cup, hopes to make the final squad after being absent since March 2023.
Additionally, Benson Omala, now with Al Safa FC, has been called up amidst a recent transfer saga, despite reports suggesting he hasn’t officially signed with the Lebanese side, even after playing and scoring in a friendly match. Meanwhile, left-back Geoffrey Ochieng and midfielder Alpha Onyango, who were part of Firat’s previous squads, have been left out and will need to impress in the coming weeks to earn a call-up in October.
