Beijing will host the 2027 World athletics Games, the sports governing body said on Wednesday. Beijing last hosted the event in 2015 and the Chinese city of Nanjing will host the world indoor championships next year.

International sports director Sebastian Coe said that the choice of Beijing was due to business, saying that the broadcast consumption of the Diamond League circuit in the country in 2023 is the highest, at 368.9 million.
“With a population of over 1.4 billion, China is one of the largest gaming markets in the world,” Coe said.
“This represents a huge opportunity to promote our sport and its fans in one of the largest commercial markets in the world.”
The last edition of the international sports competition was held in Budapest in August, while Tokyo will host the event in 2025.
