MultiChoice Kenya Limited has announced a price hike of up to 6 percent on its DStv subscriptions, a move expected to strain Kenyan consumers already grappling with a high cost of living.
This marks the third price increase in less than a year, potentially driving customers to explore alternative entertainment options.
Many entertainment joints in Kenya rely on DStv for football and other sports to attract patrons, making the price hike a significant blow to businesses as well.
Subscribers have already been notified of the new rates, which take effect on April 1. The DStv Premium package will see the highest increase, rising from Sh9,900 to Sh10,500. The Compact Plus package will now cost Sh6,500, up from Sh6,200.
Customers on the Family package will pay Sh2,000, up from Sh1,850, while DStv Lite subscribers will see their fees rise from Sh600 to Sh700. The Compact package will now cost Sh3,700, an increase from Sh3,500.
The only package unaffected by the latest review is the Access package, which remains at Sh1,300 per month.
For GOtv subscribers, the Supa package will now cost Sh1,999, up from Sh1,899, while Supa Plus will rise from Sh3,500 to Sh3,700.
