Kenya Airways Resumes Trading on NSE After 5 Years of Suspension

The Nairobi Security Exchange (NSE) has lifted the 5 year suspension which was issued on the Kenya Airways (KQ) on July 2020. This suspension was given after the government proposed a bill to renationalise the airline which was then reporting losses.

The suspension was uplifted on airline after reports on improvements of the financial performance after along period of recording losses,also the government’s decision to withdraw the bill which had caused a complication in KQ’s operations.

“Notice is hereby given of the lifting of the suspension in the trading of Kenya Airways Plc securities, effective January 5, 2025. The suspension on the trading of Kenya Airways PLC shares was lifted following the company’s recent performance which the company record a profit and the withdrawal of the National Aviation Management Bill, 2020,” the statement reads.

The airline recorded a profit of Sh513 million for the period ending June 30, 2024, for the first time in two years generating more revenue. KQ is expected to attract new investors since it has taken a new turn.

The lift was approved by the Capital Markets Authority (CMA) under sections 11(3)(w) and 22A of the Capital Markets Act (Chapter485A)
