A multi-storey building has collapse in Kahawa West Nairobi trapping occupants.On October 20th, a densely populated residential building and a clinic, equity Afia, collapse with Several families including children are feared trapped under the rubbles.

The immediate evacuation order was allegedly issued to the residents by the mulita-sectoral agency consultative committee on Wednesday, where they were to evacuate the premises with immediate effect as the cracks were visible on the building.

During a press briefing, Nairobi deputy governor James Muchiri said that they saw the event coming and fair precaution was given to the residents.

“We were aware that this building had problems because our experts had issued notices and gave warning to the residents,” Muchiri said.

The building is considered illegal as it was constructed without the county government approval leaving the Nairobi urban planning department on question on how the building came to existence without any legal required receipts.

The Kenya Red Cross through there X page said that their teams are out there to rescue the victims and those trapped.

According to Nairobi county government, so far there is No causality reported as search and rescue mission from the government and red cross team continues.

“We have no causalities as for now but there are allegations that one person might be inside there with a child and that is what we want to confirm,” Muchiri added.
