Police in Thika East, Kiambu county, have made an arrest in connection with the brutal killings of three women.
According to police, Penina Wairimu, 87, her daughter Pauline Njeri, 50, and their house help, were found dead in their home in Matathia village, Maguguni in Ngoliba ward.
The bodies were discovered where the villagers alerted the authorities.
Authorities suspect that the three women were attacked and killed on Friday night.
The motive behind this heinous act is yet to be determined.
Thika East Sub county Police Commander Andrew Sora confirmed that detectives are working tirelessly to bring all suspects to justice.
Sora stated that the bodies had been decomposing for two to three days before being found.
“This may have happened about two – three days before as the bodies are already decomposing.we have launched our investigations where we will have the suspects arrested for prosecution,” Sora stated.
The suspect currently in custody is expected to assist the police in their inquiries.
During the search of the crime scene, two knives were recovered outside the victims’ house.
Inside the house, the bodies of Wairimu and Njeri were discovered, while the decomposing body of the house help, who had been beheaded, was found buried in a shallow grave in the nearby farm.
The shocking discovery has left the entire village in disbelief.
Residents of Matathia have shared that the family had only been living in the village for about three years.
However, suspicions have arisen due to the family recently selling a property in Ruiru, leading to speculation that the attackers may have been after money.
“They have been taking milk from my farm.I have not seen them since Saturday.Icalled the daughter over payment of building bricks I had sold them but her phone was not received,” Mbogo noted.
The locals are now calling for increased security measures, including intensified night patrols, as cases of insecurity rise in the area.
Josephat Maina, a resident, expressed concern over the escalating violence arguing authorities to expedite the investigation and apprehend the culprits.
The bodies of the three victims have been taken to General Kago Funeral Home in Thika, awaiting postmortem.
The community is left mourning the loss of these innocent lives and hoping for swift justice to be served.
