Experts seeks to bring out gender dimensions of climate change in africa

NAIROBI Kenya Oct 25-African  Group of Negotiators  Experts Support (AGNES) in collobaration with the ministry of  Environment , Climate change and and Forestry  organised a meeting  which addressed challenges associated with climate change and  it’s impacts on Agriculture, health ,water resources and biodiversity .

Speaking at a hotel in Nairobi, the principal secretary state department of Environment and  Climate change Engineer Festus Ng’eno said that the meeting was to enable great African minds with strategies on matters that matter to Africa, enabling our negotiators to go to COP28 with facts and figures for engaging experts from other continents.

“This Strategy meeting enables Africa’s voice not to be just heard, but to be listened to, respected and heeded to” said PS Ng’eno.

“Despite Africa’s negligible share of global emissions, the Continent suffers a disproportionate share of the climate change burden, affecting her economic growth, sustainable development, and general well-being. This impedes her long overdue quest for development which is needed to provide opportunities for our youthful population in terms of clean jobs, as well as innovations in food production, clean energy, transportation among others,” The PS further stated.

He further continued to say that Africa’s natural capital can be harnessed to address not only Africa’s development challenges, but also provide some solution to the global climate challenge.

“It is my hope that as great minds with Africa at heat, you will be able to break down these into a persuasive message that will invite investments to Africa as equals with something valuable to offer, and not beggars,”said PS Ng’eno.

“The impact on climate change to health as well as access to water for domestic, agricultural and industrial use is one area of growing concern. It is my hope that these great minds will deliberate on how to handle climate related health issues, including malnutrition, hunger, and water access issues that is a growing concern across the continent.” He added.

According to AGNES pre COP 28 meeting , Climate change response both in terms of adaptation and mitigation – is not gender neutral, Depending on the circumstances in Africa, women, men and children are affected differently by different climate change shocks.

Therefore, this strategy meeting was to enable experts to bring out these gender dimensions of climate change in our African context and link it with the progress in addressing it through the Lima Work Programme under the UNFCCC.

Detectives attached to the Kenya National examination have arrested a Christian Religious Education teacher at St Lilian Academy in Gikambura for allegedly possessing and selling fake National examination papers.
