A joint bid by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) has been triumphantly accepted. The announcement came during the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) Executive Committee Meeting held on September 27, 2023, in Cairo, Egypt.
The last hosting occurred in Sudan back in 1970. The decision by CAF to award the hosting rights to this region is a testament to the relentless efforts and dedication put forth by the bidding nations.
Nick Mwendwa, the President of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF), expressed his elation at the
successful bid, underlining that it is merely the initial stride in a challenging yet exciting journey
“We have convinced our colleagues at CAF that East Africa can do this. Now the work begins,” remarked Mwendwa.
This victory not only promises to elevate the East African nations on the international sporting stage but also presents a unique opportunity for the host countries to showcase their rich cultural heritage and unmatched passion for football.
