Kenya’s leading professional golfers will this week converge at Limuru Country Club for the third leg of the 2026 PGK Equator Tour, a circuit that is increasingly becoming a key pathway to international competition.
The tour serves as the official qualification route to the Magical Kenya Open and contributes points towards qualification for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, raising the stakes for players seeking to compete on bigger stages.
More than 50 professionals are expected to participate in the four-day tournament as they battle for crucial Order of Merit points and a stronger position in the season rankings.
Safaricom-sponsored golfer Samuel Njoroge heads into the tournament as the current Order of Merit leader with 1,517 points after strong performances in the opening two events of the season.
Njoroge has established an early advantage in the race for the season title, although the gap remains narrow as several top-ranked golfers continue to challenge for the top position.
Mohit Mediratta sits second on 1,270 points while veteran golfer Dismas Indiza is third with 890 points, highlighting the competitiveness emerging at the top of the standings.
“The season has started well for me and I am pleased with the progress so far. My focus remains on consistency and building on the momentum from the first two events,” said Njoroge.
The tournament will also feature some of Kenya’s most experienced and promising golfers, including Matthew Wahome, one of the country’s rising talents who became one of the youngest players to compete at the Magical Kenya Open.
Daniel Nduva and Edwin Mudanyi will also be among the players seeking to strengthen their positions in the rankings as the season gathers momentum.
Women’s professional golf will also be represented by Joyce Wanjiru, Naomi Wafula and Margaret Njoki, reflecting the growing participation of female golfers in competitive professional tournaments.
Experienced golfers Greg Snow and David Wakhu are expected to add depth to the field as they continue their pursuit of ranking points and tournament success.
Beyond competition, the PGK Equator Tour continues to play an important role in developing Kenya’s professional golf ecosystem by providing structured competition, ranking opportunities and a pathway to elite international events.
The 2026 season began with tournaments at VetLab Sports Club and Thika Sports Club, with additional events scheduled later in the year as players pursue qualification opportunities and the coveted Order of Merit title.
