NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 26-The government has released sh 15 billion that is set to be used for National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF) as well as grants and bursaries for needy students across the 47 devolved units.
Culture and Heritage Principal Secretary Anne Wang’ombe in a statement stated that those who are set to benefit from the grants are action groups as well as students who successfully made met NGAAF’s eligibility criteria following submissions of their credential in October last year.

She has added that sh 273 million of the total amount will go to the bursaries of 25,000 students in a bid to bolster their support in accessing education opportunities and skills development.
“The funds will cover school bursaries for learners and vulnerable households as per the mandate of the National Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF). The grants will cover the first and second quarter of the 2023/2024 Financial year,” said Wang’ombe in a statement.
Subsequently, sh 413 million will be channeled towards supporting 2000 registered affirmative action groups which will target socio-economic empowerment and value additional initiatives.

Sh 667 million will cover countrywide projects which include combating sexual and gender-based violence as well as nurturing of talent at the grassroot levels.
On the other hand, sh 137 million is set to be used for community sensitization on various government programs and programs including the process of accessing NGAAF.
