Detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), conducted raids on the homes of former Treasury Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yatani on Wednesday.

The raid was conducted on both of his homes in Nairobi and Marsabit as well as the homes of Marsabit Governor Mohammud Mohammed Ali which detectives also raided.

They are being investigated over alleged embezzlement of Ksh8.2 billion funds. Several other Marsabit county officials are also on the EACC radar.

“He has been arrested and will be brought to the Integrity center,” said Eric Ngubi, the EACC head of communications.

Yatani arrived at the EACC headquarters at around 12.15pm with his lawyers. His lawyers include The Former Defence CS Eugene Wamalwa, Siaya Governor James Orengo and Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo.

Ukur Yatani served as the Governor of Marsabit from 2013 to 2017 before being appointed as Cabinet Secretary by the former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
