Digital payment provider Visa has partnered with ThriveAgric, an innovative start-up that champions technology to transform the payments landscape for smallholder farmers.
In the partnership, Visa will help ThriveAgric with its expansion in Kenya.
ThriveAgric seeks to set up local hubs to support farmers in five counties including Busia, Homabay, Migori, Nandi, and Narok.
The hubs which target 10,000 farmers will serve as learning centers where farmers can gather for training sessions and facilitate the distribution of inputs.

Visa’s country manager Eva Ngigi-Sarwari asserted that the program will help Visa build a network that will go a long way in aiding small-scale farmers across the country.
“This partnership will enable us to build a strong network to directly benefit farmers. We are also excited to partner with a start-up that has emerged from our Visa Everywhere Initiative contest, demonstrating the value it offers for start-ups that participate,” she said.

On his part, ThriveAgric Co-founder, Ayo Arikawe welcomed the partnership adding that it seeks to revolutionize the agricultural sector.
“Our partnership with Visa marks an exciting new chapter in our journey as we double down on our Kenyan expansion which started last year and establish local hubs in Busia and Homabay counties,” he said.
The program also seeks to train farmers on an array of topics including financial inclusion.
