The Russian tech billionaire Pavel Durov has been freed from French police custody after being detained for 4 days for questioning.

Pavel is due to be arraigned in court for a first initial hearing and could face “a possible indictment” said a statement form a Paris prosecutor.

The Telegram CEO was apprehended by French authorities at the Le Bourget Airport as he returned from Azerbaijan in his private jet, over several counts due to lack of moderation of the messaging app thus facilitating illegal activities.

The counts include fraud, dissemination of minor sexual materials, drug trafficking and facilitating transactions for organized crime.

Despite the allegations by the French authorities Telegram posted on it platform that “It is absurd to claim that a platform or its owner are responsible for abuse of that platform.”…..“Almost a billion users globally use Telegram as means of communication and as a source of vital information. We’re awaiting a prompt resolution of this situation. Telegram is with you all.”

It also explained that Pavel had nothing to hide since he travels to Europe regularly and that the moderation of the app is ” within industry standards and constantly improving.”
