The Sweden School shooting incident claimed 10 lives at Campus Risbergska, an adult education center in Örebro.

A 35-year-old man opened fire, taking the lives of people including himself. This incident is now recognized as the deadliest mass shooting in Sweden’s history.

The attack began around 12:33 PM local time. Witnesses reported hearing gunshots, followed by periods of silence, and then more shooting.

Students and staff sought refuge in classrooms and nearby buildings. Some footages on social media shows students rushing to take refuge in classrooms, with some barricading doors or fleeing the premises. The shooter, who was not previously known to law enforcement, acted alone and ultimately took his own life.

Authorities have stated that there are no immediate indications of terrorism, but the motive remains under investigation to understand why he decided to shoot people.

Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson addressed the nation, describing the day as “very painful for all of Sweden.” He emphasized the importance of unity and support for the victims and their families during this challenging time. King Carl XVI Gustaf also expressed his condolences, referring to the incident as a “dark day” for the country.

In the aftermath of the Sweden school shooting, the local community has come together to mourn and support those affected. Counseling services have been made available, and memorials are being planned to honor the victims.
