Safaricom has announced upgrades to its home and business internet offerings, including the introduction of a groundbreaking 1000Mbps Platinum package for residential users.

The telco says the move is aimed at addressing the increasing demand for high-speed internet among individual and enterprise customers.

It added that its new Platinum plan, priced at Sh20,000 per month, positions Safaricom as the first provider in Kenya to offer Gigabit speeds for home internet. This service is specifically designed for heavy users, such as gamers, content creators, and those utilizing virtual reality applications.

Existing customers will be automatically upgraded to enhanced packages, ensuring they benefit from the improved speeds without any additional effort.

In addition to the speed enhancements, Safaricom has launched the Family Share plan, which consolidates mobile voice, data, SMS, and home internet into a single package that can be shared with up to five household members.
Customers can also enjoy discounts of up to 20% on the Bronze plan, making it a cost-effective option in today’s economic climate.

CEO Peter Ndegwa emphasized the importance of these changes, stating, “We have enhanced our Home Internet speeds to cater to the increased demand and usage by offering reliable connectivity and enhanced value for our customers.”

He added that the new offerings are designed to support demanding online activities, such as high-definition streaming and cloud computing, with ease.

For enterprise customers, Safaricom has revamped its Business Fibre plans, now offering speeds of up to 1 Gbps for medium and large enterprises, alongside upgraded options for smaller businesses.

In addition to these upgrades, new business customers will receive a one-time 30GB mobile data bundle and a complimentary email and website domain for the first year.

Safaricom has recently been facing stiff competition from rival internet service providers including American businessman Elon Musk’s Starlink prompting the scale down in pricing.
