President William Ruto, during a series of events in Mombasa unveiled the government’s determination to make the port city more efficient and globally competitive. Speaking at the Port Reforms Working Group Consultative Forum held at Berth 22 of the Port of Mombasa, President Ruto emphasized the critical role of port reforms in the country’s prosperity. The government, in collaboration with partners is keen on transforming the port to boost exports, create jobs, and stimulate overall economic growth.

“The productivity of this Port is directly linked to the state of our economy, improving efficiency will help
us create jobs, boost export volumes, and stimulate economic growth,” President Ruto declared during
the forum.

The President later inaugurated the Toyota Fortuner Assembly Line, a Ksh16.9 billion ($120 million) vehicle assembly plant in Miritini. He highlighted that the government has implemented policies and measures to create an enabling environment for the growth of the manufacturing sector. Ruto urged players in the automotive industry to focus on developing affordable cars for low-income earners, aiming to uplift
communities and strengthen the economy.

“We need investments to create opportunities, uplift communities, and strengthen the economy,” he asserted, underlining the government’s commitment to supporting local industries and job creation.

During the same visit, Ruto presided over the rededication of KNS Shupavu at the Kenya Navy Headquarters. He emphasized that this move would enhance the Kenya Defence Forces’ capacity to support the maritime industry, significantly boosting the country’s Blue Economy and exploring new possibilities for trade and investment in the oceans.

Among the dignitaries present during these events were Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, Cabinet Secretaries Kipchumba Murkomen, Moses Kuria, Aden Duale, Salim Mvurya, Council of Governors Chairperson Anne Waiguru, Mombasa Governor Abdullswamad Nassir, Lamu Governor Issa Timamy, Speaker of the Senate Amason Kingi, and Members of Parliament led by Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah.

The presence of key political figures underscores the significance of the government’s commitment to the ambitious plans unveiled during the events. President Ruto’s vision for a more efficient port, a thriving manufacturing sector, and enhanced maritime capacity promises to usher in transformative changes for Kenya’s economic landscape.
