Naivas Supermarket has issued a public statement dismissing as false and misleading recent claims that the retail chain was selling expired products and that some of its Nairobi branches had been shut down by health authorities.
In a statement, the supermarket chain reassured customers and stakeholders that all its branches remain fully operational and that no expired items have been found on its shelves.
“No expired products have been found on our shelves, and we maintain stringent internal quality control and stock management systems across all our branches to ensure product safety and compliance with health regulations,” the company said.
The supermarket further emphasized that no branch has been closed by any regulatory or health body, affirming its full compliance with national and county-level standards set by the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS), the Ministry of Health, and other relevant agencies.
The statement comes after viral social media posts and forwarded messages that alleged that public health officials had raided and shut down certain Nairobi outlets of the supermarket chain due to expired goods.
The claims sparked public concern, with some users urging others to avoid purchasing from the retailer.
Naivas condemned the allegations as not only false but also potentially damaging to its reputation and the trust of the public.
“The circulating claims are entirely false, misleading, and potentially harmful not just to our brand but to our valued customers who rely on us for daily essentials,” the statement read.
The company revealed it is seeking legal counsel on possible action against the individuals or organisations behind what it described as a deliberate misinformation campaign.
It also affirmed its firm stance against bribery and corruption, stating that it will not submit to extortionary tactics.
Naivas, one of Kenya’s largest and most popular retail chains, operates dozens of outlets across the country and serves millions of customers weekly.
The supermarket has previously been recognized for maintaining high standards in hygiene, customer service, and regulatory compliance.
