Meru governor Kawira Mwangaza

NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 16-Members of County Assembly drawn from Meru have filed yet a fresh notice of motion seeking to impeach Governor Kawira Mwangaza for the third time.

In the fresh motion of impeachment, the MCA now say that the governor put all the accusations leveled against her on her junior despite being the executive head of the country mandated by the constitution to oversee all the county implementations.

”That on 7th and 8th November 2023 during the Senate hearing of the impeachment motion for the removal from office of Governor Kawira Mwangaza, she consistently put a defense on the accusations leveled against her and blamed the entire constitutional and statutory laws violations on her junior officers and appointees in the executive,” read the motion.

The MCA’s have further claimed that the governor has breached the constitution by failing to observe the one third gender principle by appointing 90 percent of directors from the same gender.

Just recently did the Senate save the beleaguered Meru County boss from a second impeachment motion leveled against her, acquitting her of all 7 charges brought up against her by the County Assembly.

She faced charges of Misappropriation and Misuse of Resources, Nepotism, Bullying, Illegal appointments, contempt of court, and naming a road after her husband illegally.

Kawira denied all the charges and put up a spirited defense saying she was being victimized as a woman leader by the male-dominated county assembly.

The new impeachment motion  comes amidst a petition  by voters from Meru calling on  president William Ruto to suspend  the county and call for fresh elections in a bid to quell the deepening tensions between  the MCAs and the governor, a factor that is threatening to hamper service delivery in the county.
