NAIROBI, KENYA, OCT 20-Tharaka Nithi county has donated 3 acres of land to Kenya power that will enable the construction of a dedicated power line that will serve the region.
Donated land will be utilized to set up a 15MVA, 132/33kV substation and act as storage of poles and other equipment that are crucial for electricity connectivity within the county.
The power lines will serve Kathwana which hosts the county headquarters and its environment. These action will see the strengthening of power supply quality within Tharaka Nithi county and will significantly aid in economic growth.
“The land we have donated to Kenya power belongs to the County Government of Tharaka Nithi. We are looking into a collaborative approach to stabilize power supply within Tharaka Nithi County as well as the county’s aggregation and industrial pork with the aim to spur economic growth,” Said Tharaka Nithi Governor Muthomi Njuki During the Donation meeting in stima plaza.
Kenya power has further promised to work closely with county governments to increase access to electricity in order to drive economic transformation, and improve livelihoods across the country. The company is carrying out engagements with county governments to map their energy needs, and establish infrastructures required .
“We do appreciate the initiative by the Government to establish industrial parks across the country and we recognize the role that Kenya Power will play in powering them. Engagements with the counties will provide the requisite data that will enable us to incorporate their needs in our strategic plan.”Said Kenya power’s managing director and CEO Dr (Eng) Joseph siror.
