The Kenya National Highways Authority (KENHA) has issued a cautionary statement on the accidents that are happening at Southern Bypass.

Fatalities have been reported and the authority has conveyed its condolences to families of the bereaved.

KENHA warns motorists on the ongoing maintenance works along the Southern Bypass include the surface dressing of the road, which is critical in sealing cracks that emerge as bitumen ages

The authority went further to advise motorists to heed to the signage installed along the road warning of ongoing works and fresh, loose chippings, the authority says that despite the signage, a number of motorists don’t comply with the speed limits.

To further slow for motorists, the authority says that the contractor has installed temporary bumps made of quarry dust to safeguard the completed works.

The authority says that high speeds through the fresh section of chippings, would lead to loss of chippings thereby compromising the quality of the finished section, the authority further say that any attempt to brake a vehicle at high speeds would lead to skidding.

A Speed camera has been installed along the road to monitor traffic, the authority encourages motorists to, at all times, adhere to set speed limits on this road.
