Wiper Party leader Kalozo Musyoka has faulted president William Ruto for the woes that deputy president Rigathi Gahagua is facing.

For weeks now, Members of Parliament allied to president Ruto have been attacking Gachagua for his stance on politics, especially his call for Mt Kenya communities to unite, something that has earned him the title of a “villager”.

Kalonzo said that he will not allow Gachagua to be impeached. He argued that the plan to impeach the second in command is a decoy to distract Kenyans from what’s happening in the country.

The Wiper leader also faulted the president for his frequent travels. Since he took office in September 2022, Ruto has made a total of 66 trips outside the country.

He accused Ruto for failing to console the families of children who perished in the fire accident at Hillside Endarasha Academy and failure to oversee the implementation of schools safety guidelines to ensure students safety while in schools.

“It is very unfortunate that instead of consoling the families of the 21 precious angels who perished in the tragic Hillside Endarasha Academy fire, Ruto is busy racking up frequent flier miles. Instead of directing his efforts towards strengthening the schools’ safety system to ensure that such a tragedy does not happen again, Ruto has allowed his henchmen to distract the country with an Impeachment Motion against his Deputy Assistant,” Kalonzo wrote on his X account.

The former vice president also took offense at the way the government is handling the planned takeover of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) by India’s Adani Group Limited. Kalonzo termed JKIA as a strategic infrastructure in Kenya. He said Ruto has turned his attention to capturing opposition and distracting Kenyans with impeachment motion against DP Gachagua.

“Instead of addressing the Adani heist, and those behind the blatant attempt to take control of key security and strategic infrastructure, Ruto’s priority is to capture the Opposition. As the Government in Waiting, we will not allow these distractions including an Impeachment Motion against the Deputy President to pass unopposed,” Kalonzo added.

MPs allied to Ruto have been threatening to move a motion to impeach Gachagua, accusing him of going against the government’s policies and alleged involvement in the Gen Z protests that forced Ruto to drop the controversial finance bill 2024.

Gachagua however maintains that Kenyans took to the street with genuine concerns and termed the plot to impeach him as an “evil scheme.”
