Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has earned two prestigious ISO certifications for environmental management and occupational health and safety at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) and Moi International Airport (MIA).
The certifications, 14001:2015 for Environmental Management Systems and ISO 45001:2018 for Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems, issued by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS), mark a major step forward in KAA’s ongoing efforts to promote sustainable practices and safeguard the health and safety of its workforce and stakeholders.

In a statement, KAA lauded the achievement, saying it underscores KAA’s leadership in environmental stewardship and workplace safety, and reflects its dedication to global best practices in airport operations.
The Authority emphasized that the dual certification is in line with its 2023–2027 Strategic Plan, which identifies Environmental Stewardship as a core strategic pillar.
“The ISO 14001:2015 certification affirms KAA’s commitment to responsible environmental management, including waste management, water and energy conservation, carbon emission reduction, and the management of noise and air pollution,” the statement noted.
Meanwhile, the ISO 45001:2018 certification highlights KAA’s emphasis on protecting its personnel. “This certification recognizes KAA’s dedication to maintaining the highest standards of occupational health and safety for all airport staff and stakeholders,” it added.
By aligning its daily operations with Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) principles, KAA says it is setting a benchmark for effective management and continuous improvement across Kenya’s aviation sector.
“KAA has successfully integrated Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) principles into the daily operations of its airports and headquarters,” the Authority stated, adding that this positions Kenyan airports as safe, sustainable, and globally competitive now and in the future.
