Former 800m world champion Janeth Jepkosgei made a significant donation this week, handing over the singlet she wore during her victorious 800m race at the 2007 World Championships. The contribution was made to the Museum of World Athletics in recognition of her first world title.

Jepkosgei, while presenting the historic memorabilia, expressed her hope that her journey could inspire others and further elevate the sport of running.

“I’m very happy to present my 2007 World Championships singlet to the Museum of World Athletics,”Jepkosgei told World Athletics.

“When it is displayed in the online museum and exhibited around the world, I hope it helps to inspire and promote the wonderful sport of running, which, in my role as head coach for the U20 Refugee Team, I know is a powerful force for good.”

Having transitioned from her career as an elite runner to coaching, the 2007 world 800m champion now finds fulfillment in her new role. She recently led the World Athletics Refugee Team at the 2023 World Championships in Budapest.

Jepkosgei’s iconic singlet will now be displayed in the Heritage Collection of the Museum of World Athletics, where it will join the shoes and apparel of other notable 800m champions, including Kenya’s renowned 800m world record holder, David Lekuta Rudisha.
