Kenyans living in Lebanon have been urged to register in order to be evacuated in the war-torn Middle East nation.
This comes as Israel and Hezbollah militia based in Lebanon are exchanging fire, where Israel is carrying out airstrikes in Hezbollah bases as Hezbollah fires barrage of missiles to Israel.
The State Department of Diaspora Affairs has told Kenyans living in Lebanon that registration will end on October 12 2024 and only those who have registered will be evacuated to safety.
The Department said it’s “concerned that a large number of Kenyas” have not registered depicts calls to do so.
It urged Kenyans in Lebanon to register immediately so that they can be evacuated to safety.
According to the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, more than 26,000 Kenyans live in Lebanon – most of whom are working in the Gulf nation.
Why is Israel fighting with Hezbollah?
Hezbollah is a militia group backed by Iran. It’s against the Israeli invasion of Gaza and that is the reason they have been firing missiles at Israel. Even more, the killing of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah by Israel through an airstrike in Beirut on September 27, 2024 has worsened the situation.
Reports say Israeli fighter jets continue to carry out massive airstrikes throughout Lebanon. In response Hezbollah is firing missiles to Israel.
Israeli soldiers have also started a ground invasion in Southern Lebanon but it says it’s undertaking a limited ground operation.
Hezbollah on the other hand says it is ready to confront Israeli troops.
