NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 27-The Frontier Model Forum (FMF)  is set to allocate Ksh1.4 Billion towards AI safety fund to promote the responsible development of large scale AI systems.

The aim of FMF  initiative is  to develop tools that will be used to identify the danger and capabilities of large AI models such as Chat GPT and will provide safety standards and guidance on how to curb the challenges posed by AI systems.

”Microsoft, Anthropic, Google, and Open AI are launching the Frontier Model Forum, an industry body focused on ensuring safe and responsible development of frontier AI models,” stated FMF in their statement.

“The Forum aims to help advance AI safety research to promote responsible development of frontier models and minimize potential risks,and support efforts to leverage AI to address society’s biggest challenges,” FMF added.

Chris Meresole, a tech policy expert has been appointed as the new executive director who will help in completing the mission of promoting responsible and safe AI developments.

The funds will be distributed to researchers associated with academic institutions, research organizations and startups and the Meridian Institute which is a non profit in Washington DC will oversee the fund allocations in these areas.
