Sports cabinet secretary Ababu Namwamba, has insisted that FKF elections must take place in accordance with the law. This was after the federation rolled out the roadmap for this year’s polls.

According to the CS, the government and his ministry will follow closely the developments of the forthcoming football Kenya federation elections after the National Executive council(NEC) confirmed that the elections would be taking place this year.

The council also confirmed that the elections would be held as per FKF elecrol code of (2020) which was used in the last elections in 2020.

Namwamba fully stamped his resolve on the elections being held as per the law. He further added that the government would see to it that the intrest of all sports are protected.

“You have independence, you have a mandate under your constitutions but the government has overall responsibility to protect Kenyan sports, so we advise the football Kenya federation to go to the polls this year. Make sure the polls are in sync with the law,” Namwamba said.

FKF senior most position has attracted interest from former FKF Sam Nyamweya, former Harambee stars midfielders Sammy Owino and McDonald Mariga, Extreme sports CEO Hussein Mohammed, Gor Mahia secretary General Sam Ocholla and former Nyanza NEC member Tom Alila.

Nick Mwendwa the current head was re-elected in 2020 and is currently serving his second term. He has garnered 77 out 85 votes. However football leaders are in a limbo about his intentions thus leaving the football community amidst state of confusion.

He had earlier stated that FKF elections must be held in February 2024, he highlated that it was not negotiable.

“Elections of FKF must be held on the due date. That is not negotiable. I have instructed the register of sports to form a technical committee and start preparing for a free, fair, and verifiable elections,” He affirmed.
