General Secretary and CEO of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Barry Otieno, has stepped down.
In a statement addressed to FKF president Nick Mwendwa, delegates, and staff, Otieno expressed his gratitude for the opportunities he was given to serve FKF.
Otieno highlighted his five-year tenure as CEO, which began in 2019, following his earlier roles as Communications Manager and Head of Communications and Marketing from 2016 to 2019.
“After five years of serving in this esteemed position, I have decided to step down and pursue other opportunities,” Otieno stated.

Otieno’s involvement with FKF spans nearly ten years, earning him widespread respect within Kenyan football for his leadership, particularly during difficult periods.
His time as CEO included navigating significant challenges, such as Kenya’s suspension by FIFA in 2022, which temporarily halted all football activities in the country.
Otieno praised the FKF staff, acknowledging their dedication and commitment.
“Your dedication, hard work, and passion have been the driving force behind our achievements. It has been an honour to lead such a talented and committed team,” he added.
Otieno’s resignation has intensified speculation that he may be considering a run for the FKF presidency in the upcoming elections.
His close association with FKF’s leadership, combined with his vast experience within the organization, positions him as a strong potential candidate for the top seat.
However, Otieno has is yet to confirm or deny the rumours publicly.
Future of FKF
Otieno expressed confidence in the federation’s future, noting that FKF is “well-positioned for continued success.”
He also assured stakeholders of his commitment to ensuring a smooth transition and offered his support during the handover process.

Otieno’s departure marks a pivotal moment for FKF, which has been under Nick Mwendwa’s leadership since 2016.
