Fighting resumes in Gaza after a short ceasefire

DECEMBER 1 – The Israel-Hamas war resumes seven days after a truce between the militant group and Israeli Defence Forces (IDF).

The cessation of fire paved way for humanitarian support to enter the besieged Gaza strip as well as release of hostages.

During the ceasefire period some Israel hostages were set free while Palestinians prisoners in Israel were set free as well.

Israeli military reported intercepting several rockets fired from Gaza strip. Hamas as well reported that Israeli military has opened fire on Gaza strip.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office told Al Jazeera that they are committed to achieving their goal of eliminating Hamas militants and freeing the hostages.

“With the resumption of fighting we emphasize: The Israeli government is committed to achieving the goals of the war to free our hostages, to eliminate Hamas, and to ensure that Gaza will never pose a threat to the residents of Israel,” Netanyahu’s office said.

However, Hamas has said that Israel will Israel may not achieve their target after the truce.

“What Israel did not achieve during the fifty days before the truce, it will not achieve by continuing its aggression after the truce,” Hamas said in a statement.

On 7th of October, Hamas opened a surprise attack in the Southern part of Israel killing 1,200 people and taking 240 hostages. In retaliatory attack that took more than a month, Israeli military killed 15,000 Gazans including children.
