Comedian and content creator Eric Omondi has urged parents to allow their children to take up content creation and other art-based careers, saying that they are so lucrative.

While pop culture has termed education as unworthy in the digital age, Omondi said that education has been instrumental for his success in comedy because it enabled him to reach more audience.

He recalled a time he had gone for a comedy show in United States of America, where he says without education he wouldn’t have done comedy show there.

“I would encourage parents to let their children to be musicians, comedians and other arts careers. We need to debunk myths around content creation. It’s a talent and it key in today’s world. However, studying is important as it gives you leverage on your reach,” Omondi said.

“There is a time I went to 17 States in US within weeks doing comedy shows. If I was illiterate I wouldn’t have done comedy in America.”

Omondi rose to stardom through the popular Churchill Show. He says that while stand up comedy was a good thing, digital content creation is more lucrative.

He told JEDCA MEDIA that he started content creation in 2010 and has since become the best creator in Kenya with the highest number of followers on Instagram and huge following on other social platforms.

Omondi, who have recently been involved in digital activism said many parents have not understood what content creation is all about.

He said time is ripe for students in schools to be taught on content creation, emphasising that parents should know that content creation is a job like any other.

“I have been doing comedy and content for close 20 years and it pays me a lot of money. People know what a lawyer, teacher or doctor do but they don’t understand content creation. It’s time for people to know it’s a job like any other,” he said.

While addressing concerns on scandals and clout chasing, Omondi said chasing clout is part of marketing content and standing out.

However, he warned that clout chasing could harm your brand if you are not careful on how you do it. He also said consistency is the secret for his success in comedy and content creation.

“You have to be consistent. I have been consistent since I started comedy and content creation that is why I am where I am. If you are not careful you won’t make it,” he said.
