With the world facing many challenges staged by climate change, crucial measures need to be put in place to tackle it. Environment Institute of Kenya is set to hold the second annual climate conference in Mombasa, to bring together the stakeholders to shed light on climate issues and how to address it.

In a recent interview with Ronald Kimtai, the CEO of the Environment Institute of Kenya (EIK), he emphasized the institute’s dedication to addressing environmental concerns and promoting awareness
on climate-related issues. With a focus on ensuring widespread engagement at the local, national, and
international levels, the EIK is set to host its second annual climate conference in Mombasa on October
25th and 26th. This conference aims to discuss critical climate changes and related matters, bringing
together all African heads of states and other international leaders.

“Our main objective is to shed light on climate issues and acknowledge that they can no
longer be ignored. We believe it is crucial to involve various actors to tackle climate challenges
effectively,” Kimtai said.
The conference focuses on four key topics, each focusing on different aspects of climate-related concerns. Firstly, examining existing legislation surrounding climate change which ring-fences Climate Change Act implemented of 2016. Kimtai highlighted the formation of a climate change council, spearheaded by Kenyan President William Ruto as an important step towards addressing climate issues through policies.

Secondly, exploring climate activities, with a particular emphasis on technologies, innovations, and practices that safeguard the world’s climate. Climate-smart agriculture will be among the highlighted initiatives, aiming to protect the climate while improving agricultural productivity.
